Welcome to Day 2 of ArmchairBEA. Really glad I have new laptop up and running so I can participate.
Author Interaction:
I don’t really get to meet authors
IRL because I live far away from major cities which they typically
visit (4.5hr drive to get to San Francisco). I do however get to talk
to a few authors via email or other internet means. When I first
started blogging I was worried that authors would not like my blog,
my style of writing reviews or just plain anything I did. I learned
quickly thought that authors like uniqueness. Lately when I send out
review requests I ask the author if they would be interested in a Q&A
when I do my review. I offer that service because it is one way to
show that authors have lives outside of the book they wrote. Kind of
like a teacher when you see them in a grocery store and forget that
they have lives besides grading papers all day. I’m really lucky
that I have had the opportunity to chat with so many great authors
and I hope someday to meet them all in person.
More Than Just Words:
I use to read graphic novels or manga
when I was in middle school and it was really good. My only complaint
was that I read them so fast and the price of them was a little high
for as fast as I read them. Now because I drive a lot as well as work
outside I love listening to audiobooks. I just recently finished
Interworld by Neil Gaiman. That was one amazing narrator. Right now I
am listening to The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and Narrated by
Kate Rudd. Kate is interesting and I’m not passing judgment till I
get past chapter 6. I would suggest listening to Interworld, there
are some sound effects in there also which added to certain scenes.
TTFN,
Ashley
Graphic novels do get read very quickly, which is why I always check them out of the library! I think authors are usually very nice, although they are sometimes really busy, too! Hope you have fun with Armchair BEA!
ReplyDeleteI never really thought of checking graphic novels out a the local library.

It has taken me a long time to really warm up to graphic novels. Odd, because I've always been wild about children's picture books. There is something about the banality of the conversations in graphic novels, I think, but it's necessary to carry out the plot, somehow. Oh, I can't put my finger on it, and I've actually grown to love some graphics (Relish, for one) so I hope I don't sound too judgmental.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to meet you here! Welcome to Armchair BEA!
Havent heard of Relish but I will check it out
DeleteThanks for stopping by

I really love graphic novels, but I do almost always get them out from the library unless it's one I think I'll read frequently. Thanks for the great recommendation for the Gaiman audio - I'm always trying to find new audio to listen to; I just really discovered I like it recently!
ReplyDeleteInterworld was really good and it the second book/audio I have of Gaiman (Unnatural Creatures is the other)
DeleteThanks for stopping by.

I love audiobooks, I read so much more when I can listen while driving. Graphic novels are great to check out from the library--I agree! I get all my audiobooks from the library too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, I drive to school everyday (25min round trip) so I get a lot of listening in.

Hi Ashley, I was interested in your comment about contacting authors for a Q and A. I've never done that. How does it work - do you go through their publishers or approach them direct? How do you get their contact info?
ReplyDeleteTypically I find an authors website send them a direct email (unless it says otherwise) and ask to review their book in exchange for an honest review and if possible a short Q&A.
DeleteHope this helps,
Ashley
I like author Q&As since it's such a fun bit of interaction for all involved -- author, blogger, and reader.
