#RoadToBookExpo

I`m Back.

I know this hiatus was not intended to last this long but its something that needed to happen.

I am back though and the fun can really begin. Follow me over on Instagram for day by day updates on the travel. Walt and I are doing our annual road trip and the main goal is Book Expo. This year I am a onsite correspondent for Armchair Book Expo.

It is day three on the road. I have finished one book and started an audio as well. The book I finished was Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. My review will go live next Monday for it. The audio book Walt and I started is Armada by Ernest Cline. We are 2.5 hours into it and I love it. I mean I might be a little bias because I love Wil Wheaton.

So like I said check out my Instagram @Bookz4Nerdz for bookish photos as well as the many stops along this adventure. I`ll be using the #RoadToBookExpo on facebook, twitter and instagram as well.

Ashley

January Update

Hello all and Welcome to Books Buying Beauty the 2017 Edition

 Now onto the mini review;

Spindle
E.K. Johnston
355pgs
Disney Hyperion
12/16

Overall Rating: 3/5 Stars
The concept behind this was amazing but I felt like it fell flat.I didnt really realize how it tied into A Thousand Nights but I guess it does. Overall I think the writing was amazing but the story itself just wasn`t for me. I gave it three stars because I did enjoy the characters and their growth.

I wish you all a Happy New Year.

TTFN,
Ashley

May Update

As we approach the end of the month I wanted to do a little update on what the blog has been up to.

I have been on the road both for adventure and BEA. The end of this month I will have a massive photo BEA Wrap-up so everyone can enjoy that.

Brian has been given control of the blog for both Armchair BEA as well as reviewing. So be sure to check out his posts and give them some comment love.

June will be the start of a new adventure. After almost 5 years with Blogger I will be starting the transition over to Worpress. With that will come a new design and style.
I'll still be the main person on here but the move also makes it easier to let Brian have some control. This came up in a discussion at BEA about having co-bloggers and being in a slump. This blog has been my baby and to let someone else take care of my child is a little nerve wracking. I know that Brian sees the importance of this blog so he will continue being a great asset to it.

I know some
Of the reviews you've seen have been doubles (one from me earlier this year and one from Brian) this will be changing soon. I've just read so many awesome books lately that I was throwing them at him to read.

So that's it for the blog news. Once I've done the swap I'll be hosting a giveaway with a few special gifts.

Also don't forget about my 200 follower giveaway on Instagram. I'm giving away a paperback copy of Zodoac by Romima Russell with signed postcards. Check me out on IG @Bookz4Nerdz

Weekly TBR

LISTENING:

Scorched by Mari Mancusi

Sixteen-year-old Trinity Foxx is used to her grandfather's crazy stories, so she doesn't believe that the latest treasure he brought home is a real dragon's egg. Not until their home is invaded by soldiers trying to steal it and a strange boy telling her the world as she knows it will be wiped out in a fiery dragon war

Thoughts:
 At first the narrator for the audiobook was a little much for me to handle while driving home at night. Then it was like she clicked and the voices were perfect and the pacing was great. I`m really enjoying it so far and purchased the 2nd book on audio as well. Already 4 CDs in to the book, Which is chapter 22.

KINDLE:
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.

Thoughts:
Started this Friday night and am already 21% done with it. Loving it so far. Will probably finish it by the end of the week.

HARDCOPY:
Ensnared by A.G. Howard
After surviving a disastrous battle at prom, Alyssa has embraced her madness and gained perspective. She's determined to rescue her two worlds and the people and netherlings she loves. Even if it means challenging Queen Red to a final battle of wills and wiles .

Thoughts: So I technically have only read the 1st chapter since I added this to my TBR. Part of me knows that once this is over there will be no more Morpheus, Jeb or Aly and the feels are just too much.
Although can we just talk about this cover. IT IS GORGEOUS. I will have a surprise in the next few weeks that a fellow blogger is making :)

In other news, I go back to school this week starting Tuesday. I think this time around I will have blog things more organized So I won`t be stressing about posting all the time.

Ashley

Weekly TBR

Hey there everyone.
Yesterday was my birthday so I didn`t have time to write a post on what I would be reading this week. So here we a go only a day late :)

LISTENING:

Scorched

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
In the secluded Dutch territory of Sleepy Hollow, nebbish schoolmaster Ichabod Crane competes with the town hero for the hand of Katrina Van Tassel, the 18-year-old daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer. As Crane leaves a party at the Van Tassel's farm one autumn evening, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman

KINDLE:

The Future Collection
This collection of sci fi stories from NY Times Bestselling author Beth Revis features worlds and technology from the future. Featuring three brand new, original tales and three reprints, each story explores a different set of characters in a different world and facing different problems in the future world.

HARDCOPY:

In other news I have been updating Goodreads on what I am currently reading as well as making sure to share posts on the FB page.

This Saturday Jan 24th is National Readathon Day. Will you be participating? Boyfriend and I are doing something in the afternoon but that morning and evening I hope to be cranking out the books. Here is a link to Goodreads Pledge to Read page so go sign up and read with me :)

 53% of 9-year-olds read for pleasure daily, and by the time they turn 17, that number drops to 19%. Without your help, book worms may soon become an endangered species
That's why Penguin Random House and the National Book Foundation are launching National Readathon Day. We're asking book lovers across America to pledge to read for four hours starting at noon (in respective time zones) on January 24, 2015.

Birthday was fantastic. Went bowling with some friends Saturday night then on my actual birthday the boyfriend and I went book shopping (He bought a book too) and to the movies. American Sniper is a must to see.

Update and Spotlight

Haha look already off to an awful start of my schedule goal, but I am posting at least :)

This past week I have finished my audiobook Merciless (Review), I have also put down I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson ( not exactly a DNF but just a "for right now" type thing). Since putting down I`ll Give You the Sun I have started reading Attachments by Rainbow Rowell and am roughly 46% done with it. I`m also working on listening to Frostfire by Amanda Hocking.

Besides updating you on what I`ve been reading this week I also want to show off two of the blogs that I really like. There are links to their website as well as to their FB/Twitter. Go check them out.

Icey Books

IceyBooks was founded in September of 2010 as a way to share our love for books. We review Young Adult, Middle Grade, and the occasional New Adult/Adult, host giveaways, chat with authors, and feature books, plain and simple. We post every day of the week, so there’s new content every 24 hours—or less!
Bloggers:
Hafsah (21) & Asma (14)

Website
WHY
I love talking to Hafsah not only about books but about gaming as well. She has also published her own book called Unbreathable. (My Review) I can always count on her to speak her mind about a book.

Perpetual Page Turner

WHY
Jamie is fantastic, her updates at the end of the month with her playlists have given me so many more bands to listen to while reading. Both her and Hafsah are great at telling it like it is. I can count on them for book recommendations.

What bloggers do follow and read their reviews?

One of the things I am most looking forward to this year is BEA in May. I not only want to meet authors and see NYC, I also want to meet the bloggers that I have read so much about online and talked to. I think that in itself would be amazing.

Ashley

I'm reading Stardust by Neil Gaiman for book to movie challenge.

Scortch Trials will be book with red as well as Book2 I'm series

I'm at 3 books so far out of 7 so I'm hoping I can crank out 4 more books by Sunday.

Scortch Trials,Book 3 of the Maze Runner trilogy,Stardust, and one more book will make it to 7 books read.

Wish me luck.

Ashley

Middle March Update

So I know I have been absent as of late. Real life has taken over and for me that is a good thing.

I started blogging because no one in my real life cared to hear about the books I was reading. Now I have some pretty great people who are totally bookish.

I will still be posting on here just not on a regular schedule. I will participate in Top Ten Tuesday (Who doesn`t like lists), Give reading updates (still have my reading goal for the year), and will post min-reviews on books I think people really need to give a shot.

I follow a blog Glamorous Book Lounge here is the link to check her out: http://glambooklounge.blogspot.com/
She does this really cool post every once in awhile Sunday Scoop. I like all the interesting links that she shares.
One topic really interested me in her post http://glambooklounge.blogspot.com/2014/02/sunday-scoop-17.html.
It was talking about how we have made-up words that everyone uses. My word that i took from it was Nurdling:
The act of sticking your cold feed under someone's butt on the couch (verb), ner-duh-ling.

Her posts convinced me to start collecting interesting links i find through-out the week and share them one here. Not all of them will be book related but most will.

Currently Reading: Venom (On page 36)

Plan on Reading: Nil by Lynne Matson (Was on facebook team, lovely author to chat with)
                                  Pulse by Patrick Carmen (Finally got a copy)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Life:
     School is going well. Today is the first day of Spring Break. I had midterms all last week so my month consisted of studying. I qualified to take my one speech for Forensics to a tournament locally. That should be fairly exciting.
    Been doing lots of outdoor work in the backyard putting up 2 greenhouses and rebuilding a chicken run. Boyfriend and I have been making plans for the summer when I get home from my road trip in June.
     Weather hasn`t been too good so haven`t gotten much riding done. I have family coming up in 2 weeks which means we will be going riding.
     Already bought my ticket to go see Divergent when it comes out. The audiobook of book 1 was pretty good, have to get hands on audiobooks for 2&3. I already know the ending so I`m not in dire need of those.
That`s all for now. I will have a Top Ten this week as well as a book haul. Trying to record a shelf tour for YouTube but that is taking some time.
Ashley
Update: Feb TBR & LIfe
Hello everyone in the blogosphere. How have you been??
I am reading Ash  by Malinda Lo and boy is it good. Its a retelling of Cinderella. I only bought it because of the title. More on the book though when I post the review next week. (so far 4 stars)
I also plan on reading The Archived by Victoria Schwab this month. This is towards my A-Z Reading Challenge.
I was able to pick up a copy of Ignite Me  by Tahara Mafi the beginning of this month but I gave it to a friend to read. I also bought a paperback edition of Shatter Me (covers need to match) and Unite Me which is the novellas combined. I read Destroy Me which is roughly 109 pages. I`m not sure if i will count it as a full book, maybe once I read Fracture Me I will count it.
Life:
Okay so school is going great. I am on the Forensics team. Its a fancy name for Speech and Debate. I`m loving the class as well as the people. I have one speech topic locked down with a speech almost finished. Have to practice more Impromptu speeches though.
February 7th was the release date of Born of The Gods which is a set of Magic the Gathering. I got to play in the pre-release tournament with one of my closest friends. We ended up tying for 1st, for it being my first ever event I was pretty excited.  You might see me occasionally make references to Magic or bring it up during updates because most of my friends play and it does occupy my time.
Absence and Apologies
So Its the new year, i have already failed my blogging resolution of posting. School started yesterday (taking a lighter load), My birthday was the 19th (spent 3 days celebrating my Golden Birthday of 19yrs), Have a huge case of poison oak (which means hours laying in bed not sleeping due to the itching).
None of these are valid enough excuses to not be posting. I have been reading some really good books just need to write their reviews.
Over the course of February my book reviews will be from older books I have read. I am also working on making my first ever book shelf tour video :)
Again I`m sorry to those that do follow my blog that you havent seen any special notification from me on bookish items. I promise they will start back up. Real life takes over sometimes (even if I dont want it to).
Blog Update
As you all can tell the blog is getting a full on make-over.
Jessica at Crossroads Reviews is being an amazing person and helping me out. THANK YOU
It started awhile ago when she offered to help me with a new template then this past week while on her weekly Spreecast (found Here ) she said she could help me change my blog around so it would be more appealing and let publishers know I am a serious blogger.
My plan was to redesign my baby the month of December since that will be my 2 year Blogaversary.
But Hey only a month early and by December everything past and present will be updated to perfection.
Thank you again to the amazing Jessica for all your hard work rummaging through my stuff and putting up with me on Facebook. I look forward to many more book chats with you.
May Wrap-Up
So it is the 1st of June. Hard to believe because May has just flow by. Two days ago I graduated from high school and in two more days I will be leaving on a 54 day road trip with my Great Grandfather Walter.
I have every intention of keeping the blog running but the posts might be a little sporadic.
I have finished
Revenge of the Not-So-Pretty Girl
Dreaming Anastasia
Corsets & Clockwork Anthology
One review is already posted the other two will be up within the next week.
This coming 2 months will be an E-Book months. I am packing my Nook and Tablet (graduation present) and will be reading all the e-books I have on them. Well my goal is to read at least 6 books while on vacation but since I will be driving half the time and going on mini- adventures not sure how much I will get done.
I am also giving Sean the password for my blog so he can post his guest reviews for the books he is reading.
Lost Books by Ted Dekker (boyfriend post)
My reaction of the first 40pgs:
The story at first seems a little on the younger side with how it all revolves around the number seven and a game of football. Then it all changes when the players change and its more of a gladiatorial game to determine a champion to lead and save their lands from the Scabs. It's a game where the smartest user of their own muscle wins. Now it's time to watch the most unlikely hero unfold out of the smallest boy there.
Synopsis in Short:
This takes place just before Ted Dekker's book, Red. Four teenagers, two male, two female, are chosen to be the leaders of the new forest guard divisions. To be incited they must each find and bring back a catalina cacti, a cactus plant. While out, they are attacked by Horde scouts.
