Review: Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

Rebel Belle
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Narrated by: Amy Rubinate
Published On: 4/8/14
Audio Length: 9hrs 22min
Page Count: 345
Synopsis: (Found on Goodreads)

Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.

Overall Rating: 4/5
Cover: 4/5
I audiobooked this but looking at the cover I think it fits the “Southern Belle” very well. Plus I like that book two “Miss Mayhem” matches it.

Characters: 4/5
Harper:
Although she is a bit of a perfectionist she stands up in her beliefs (even if some are a little extreme). Most characters in the book focused more on her looks then how smart she actually is. She did annoy me at first but once it got down to doing business she was kickass.

David:
He is definitely more stuck up than I expected him to be in the beginning but then once you learn more about him you understand why. He knows how to get under Harper`s skin and I love how well these two mesh together.

Plot: 3/5
In the beginning you sort of just want to slap Harper for being so concerned with Homecoming and being Miss Perfect. I felt like the first fight scene in the bathroom was a little extreme and the Paladin Idea didn’t flow as well as I was hoping it would.

I did like how Cotillion was described and how that portion of the book played out. There were some rough parts of the book but I think in the end I would pick up and read Miss Mayhem just to hear what happens.

"Chapter 7 of audiobook. Still weird to hear narrator but the plot is interesting and I want to slap the MC. Don't use letters just say the damn curse word."

"Sometimes I want to punch Harper for being so perfect when she does things to Ryan and he just melts like nothing she does is wrong. Grrr"

"I'm on chapter 14 in the audiobook. Not sure what that translates too page wise. I'm still just not feeling Harper and Ryan. Looks aren't everything and when you don't truly enjoy kissing the boy you're dating then you shouldn't force yourself to stick with it."

ArmchairBEA 2014: Authors & Audiobooks

Welcome to Day 2 of ArmchairBEA. Really glad I have new laptop up and running so I can participate.

Author Interaction:

I don’t really get to meet authors IRL because I live far away from major cities which they typically visit (4.5hr drive to get to San Francisco). I do however get to talk to a few authors via email or other internet means. When I first started blogging I was worried that authors would not like my blog, my style of writing reviews or just plain anything I did. I learned quickly thought that authors like uniqueness. Lately when I send out review requests I ask the author if they would be interested in a Q&A when I do my review. I offer that service because it is one way to show that authors have lives outside of the book they wrote. Kind of like a teacher when you see them in a grocery store and forget that they have lives besides grading papers all day. I’m really lucky that I have had the opportunity to chat with so many great authors and I hope someday to meet them all in person.

More Than Just Words:

I use to read graphic novels or manga when I was in middle school and it was really good. My only complaint was that I read them so fast and the price of them was a little high for as fast as I read them. Now because I drive a lot as well as work outside I love listening to audiobooks. I just recently finished Interworld by Neil Gaiman. That was one amazing narrator. Right now I am listening to The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and Narrated by Kate Rudd. Kate is interesting and I’m not passing judgment till I get past chapter 6. I would suggest listening to Interworld, there are some sound effects in there also which added to certain scenes.

YA AudioSync

Well I downloaded this audiobook called Of Poseidon by Anna Banks through the YA Sync Audiobook of 2013

IT IS AMAZING!!! I like the narrator overall but wish there was a male to read for those parts.
I am about half way through with it, been listening to it when it is my turn to drive.

Here is the cover:
Synopsis:

Galen is the
prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma's gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom...

As of now I am in Arizona but I will be heading to Carlsbad, NM then to Texas. If there are any follows in the States that might want to meet up and book talk that would be soooo cool
