Armchair BEA: Day One Introduction to Brian

  1. My name is Brian and the blog that I assist with is Books Buying Beauty. If you want to talk with me, Brian is fine.
  2. I have been a book blogger for about 5 months.
  3. I have not participated in ABEA before, but I’ve been looking forward to it for awhile.
  4. My favorite book right now (it changes a lot) is The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner. I just finished reading it recently and it was amazing. The characters had such depth and the story was something I feel everyone can relate to in some way. I’m very glad I read it.
  5. My favorite genre for as long as I can remember has been High Fantasy. I enjoy the works of J.R.R. Tolkein, Robert Jordan, and the like. Though recently I have been introduced to Young Adult and it has been very interesting, though that could be partially because I have someone who knows me very well picking my books for me. Either way, I have been happy with what I’ve been reading lately.
  6. The day I’m looking forward to the most would have to be Thursday, 5/12. I’m interested in the topics posted regarding aesthetic concerns for books and blogs, and I’m also excited to hear how the event is going for Ashley, who is an onsite coordinator for the event. She has been looking forward to BEA all year, and I am looking forward to hearing the stories and seeing all of the pictures.
  7. The next book on my TBR is The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi, and I’m very excited to read it. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the characters and story, as well as an interesting view into another culture. I’ll be taking this one to work with me today and am really looking forward to getting started.
  8. So far this year, the most interesting part regarding the books I’m reading is the change of genre. Swapping from my typical High Fantasy novels to Young Adult, the stories seem even more character driven than normal, because you don’t have an entirely fantastical world pushing the plot forward. Instead you have real people in real life situations (typically, not always) and you get to relate on an even closer level. It has given me a new perspective as a reader and a writer.

  2. If you're looking for fantasy, you can't go wrong with J.R.R. Tolkien. They are some of my all time favorites. I would suggest starting the Wheel of Time series only if you're ready for a big commitment, it's very long. Very enjoyable as well though.
