Ashley:
It
isn’t very often I pick up a book written by a male author. I love to read
books that throw me into the mind of a boy. What better way to do that then
with the help of a male mind.
Sean:
Because
I’m so new to the YA genera I actually haven’t read any books by a male author.
I would imagine that they would read more like the high fantasy books I read
because they are male author dominant. I don’t feel any different being of a
minority in the world of YA because I’ve always been of the minority. I am
currently looking into finding a YA book written by a male author after I
finish reading Phoenix. I would imagine the difference would be in a few
thought processes of the characters and in details; and my generalizations are
only generalizations, I’m sure there are differences.
What I regret about high school is not reading enough books by female writers. I missed out on a lot, and now I'm making up for lost time.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to high fantasy, there are also YA sci-fi thrillers by male authors, such as Boy Nobody by Allen Zadoff. Ooh! And Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. It's a zombie love story written by a male author, which rebels against the convention that dude writers write only action/sci-fi. I loved Warm Bodies as a novel.
What a wonderful topic; thank you two for sharing your thoughts on this.
