Boy Recession Review

Title: The Boy Recession
Author: Flynn Meaney
Pages: 246

I got this for Christmas ad boy am I glad I picked this up to read first. I am totally motivated to read all my books so goodbye sleep and hello sweet smelling pages.

Cover:
Synopsis:

It's all about supply and demand when a high school deals with the sudden exodus of male students.
The boy recession has hit Julius P. Heil High, and the remaining boys find that their stock is on the rise: With little competition, even the most unlikely guys have a good chance at making the team and getting the girl. Guitar-strumming, class-skipping Hunter Fahrenbach never wanted to be a hot commodity, but the popular girls can't help but notice his unconventional good looks. With a little work, he might even by boyfriend material.
But for down-to-earth Kelly Robbins, the boy recession is causing all sorts of problems. She has secretly liked her good friend Hunter for a while now, but how can she stand out in a crowd of overzealous Spandexers?

As if dating wasn't hard enough without a four-to-one ratio!

Review:

The  title catches your eye with all the pink I felt this would be totally girly and not my style. Boy did I judge a book wrong. The back cover is what made me put this on my wish list. The catch phrase was "It`s all about Supply and Demand." That phrase and that cover with the summary and it sounds like a good book to pick up.

Each chapter page gives you the name of the POV you are reading from because it switches characters, It was a little confusing because at first I didn't read the POV names.

As I got through the novel, I noticed some things that I was able to relate to. Kelly and her friends said things and acted like my friends and I do, even though my friends are dudes. For example, when Hunter performs a song he wrote, Kelly and her friends are analyzing his lyrics. They also analyzed other people’s moves-especially Hunter’s. I love dissecting song lyrics and trying to find the hidden message in them.

I enjoyed Kelly and Hunter as protagonists, but I think the other characters did draw some attention away from the two. Kelly’s two friends Aviva and Darcy are main examples. Aviva is boy-crazy and can get any guy. Darcy is school-crazy and is class president. Their actions and ideas were annoying me by the end of the novel because their traits were centered on those things and a slight distraction from the main plot.

The story is focused on girls doing anything to get a guy since there is a four to one ratio of guys to girls, a lot of parts advocate female strengths and break stereotypes. There are girls asking guys to prom (which is relatable for me) and girls with great physical assets that have purity rings. I really liked these points in the book and wish I could see it in real life.

Overall, I thought this novel was alright. The plot line is pretty original (can you just imagine an actual boy recession?)
The Boy Recession is one of those reads that is just plain adorable.
